Why Alignment Matters on a Semi

A truck that is out of alignment eats tires, pulls to one side and burns more fuel. On a tractor-trailer, a single misaligned axle can wear a full set of steer or trailer tires long before their time. Alignment is one of the cheapest ways to protect what you spend on tires.

Signs Your Truck Needs an Alignment

  • Uneven or feathered wear on steer or drive tires
  • Truck pulls left or right on a straight road
  • Steering wheel is off-center when driving straight
  • Trailer “dog-tracks” and does not follow the tractor
  • You just installed new tires, or had steering or suspension work

What We Align

  • Steer axle: toe, camber and caster check
  • Drive axles: thrust angle and axle parallelism
  • Trailer axles: dry van, reefer and flatbed trailers
  • Alignment after tire, steering or suspension repair

Alignment pairs well with new tires and brake work and with your annual DOT inspection. If we find worn kingpins, tie rod ends or suspension parts, we show you before replacing anything.

“I’ve been to a lot of shops, and RT Group is one of the few that actually does what they say. Rolled in with an issue on my trailer — no lights, busted wire. They got me in quick, showed me exactly what was wrong, and had it fixed that same day.”

“Brought my Freightliner Cascadia to RT Group after an air leak and brake issues. The mechanics found the problem quickly, explained what needed to be repaired, and got the truck back on the road the same day. No guessing, no unnecessary work, no surprise charges.”

“Great people working. Very professional and do quality work. We came in for some electrical issues on the trailer after another road service made a big mess there. They found the problem and fixed it quickly. Highly recommend this place.”

FAQ

Common Questions

Do you align both trucks and trailers?
Yes. We align semi trucks, straight trucks and trailers, including dry vans, reefers and flatbeds.
How do I know if my truck needs an alignment?
Common signs are uneven tire wear, the truck pulling to one side, an off-center steering wheel, or a trailer that does not track straight behind the tractor.
Should I get an alignment after new tires?
Yes, it is a good idea. Aligning after new steer or drive tires helps the new set wear evenly from day one.
Can you fix worn steering or suspension parts found during alignment?
Yes. If we find worn kingpins, tie rod ends or suspension parts, we show you and quote the repair before doing any work.
